GM Jim - My Friend

Many years ago back in 1999 I met GM Jim through an email he sent me. He was the President of the New England Chevelle Owners and he reached out to me and said how much he enjoyed reading the Newsletter I wrote for the Wichita Area Chevelle Owners. That began our 20 year friendship.

Jim was an amazing guy. We emailed back and forth for several years till one day he flew down to meet me. We spent the weekend going to car shows, cow town and seeing Wichita.

Over the years Jim flew down to Wichita four times and we went on lake trips, car shows and enjoyed hanging out together. But more than that we stayed in touch regularly with phone calls and emails. He was an amazing guy. I loved his New England accent and his quick wit and humor. He always mailed Birthday cards, Anniversary cards and Christmas gifts to my Grandma, my parents, my kids and my wife and I. It was so much fun being his friend. He had a memory like a steel trap and loved to give.

Yesterday his son Ken called me and said Jim passed away Friday night. I was heartbroken. He will be missed by so many. Not just by me but by many others he stayed in touch with all over the country as well as his wonderful family that loved him so much. His passing will leave an empty hole in my heart and I will miss him for the rest of my life.

I have been praying for his family and friends today. I never made the trip up to New England to meet them and to see all the wonderful things in New England that he spoke of so highly. Where does the time go? How did this happen so suddenly? A small piece of my heart has been ripped out and is gone forever. Life is so short and I am beating myself up for not making the time to go visit him and his family.

Note to self: Remember to take the time to visit family and friends. Tell them how much I love them and be a giver.

I love you GM Jim and I will never forget you. Prayers from do da Kansas.

Thank you,

Brent Hardin
